About the Program

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs
GEAR UP is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school.



  1. Increase the number of students who graduate high school and enroll in college.
  2. Increase these students’ academic performance and preparation for college.
  3. Increase student and family knowledge of postsecondary options, preparation, and financing.

What we Provide:

  • Family events/dinners/workshops to develop study habit techniques, assist with class scheduling, provide homework assistance.
  • Academic Advisors who work with students to make Educational Plans based on their goals & high expectations.
  • Assist with class schedules to insure students are completing classes to get into their chosen colleges.
  • Assist students in completing college applications & essays.
  • Regular college prep workshops and activities to help students select the college that’s right for them.
  • A “Summer Bridge” Program for our 12th graders, to strengthen their academic skills, and make sure their first year in college is a success.
  • Financial Aid workshops to teach students and families about, and how to apply for, scholarships, loans, and other forms of aid, so going to the college of their choice is realistic and feasible.

  • Support from us all through the rest of your secondary school and into your first year of college.
